A comprehensive revamp of nursing facilities in the United States will include minimum staffing levels. Many facilities are short on nurses, nursing assistants, and other personnel as a result of the epidemic. Biden’s plan will involve 20 distinct initiatives to improve nursing home quality in addition to staffing standards. There will be no additional government funding sources to cover the costs of the adjustments.
The chairman of a major business association believes that nursing homes require additional resources rather than finger-pointing. The White House claims that “too many continue to deliver inadequate, subpar care, resulting in unnecessary resident suffering.” Long-term care was already suffering from a labor shortage before COVID, and the pandemic just added to the problem. “We won’t be able to satisfy extra personnel needs if we can’t locate people to fill available positions,” a spokesperson said.
